Glossary:TLS
TLS or Transport Layer Security is a standard for securing data over a TCP data stream. It offers encryption using a shared key derived using a secure key exchange mechanism, and allows one or both ends to identify themselves using digital certificates. It has superseded SSL, but "SSL" is still often used to describe a link actually secured by TLS.
