Tolerance is an indication of the accuracy of a device specification. For example, a 10 resistor with a tolerance of 5% may in fact have a value anywhere between 95 and 105.
Tolerance is an indication of how closely a device conforms to its specification. For example, a 100Ω resistor measured accurately is unlikely to read precisely 100Ω, but if it has a tolerance of 5% it will have a value between 95Ω and 105Ω.
