Glossary:Virtual Machine
A virtual machine or VM is a complete operating system with applications running in a kind of padded cell as an application under a host operating system. In this way, for example, you can try out different Linux distros under an existing Windows installation, or run a Windows installation under Linux if a Windows application you need is not available under Linux.
