There should be a thermal cut-out which will operate if the air flow is temporarily impeded for example by a towel. This may be self-resetting. There may also be a non-resettable cut-out designed to prevent a fire if the overheating starts to approach a dangerous level. If this has operated there may already be some damage, and you should make sure you've identified and corrected the root cause of the problem. If you come across a vintage hair drier without these cut-outs you should consider carefully whether it's safe to use. --Pleriche (talk) 12:11, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
