Glossary:Port
A TCP or UDP port is simply a number designating a particuar service on a server. For example connecting to a computer with port number 80, the connection will be routed to the computer's web server software, or if you want an encrypted connection you connect to TCP port 443. Many other services for example email, DNS, time services, file and print services are distinguished by well known port numbers.
